Senior Software Engineer

My client is a Scottish technology centred life sciences business with a customer base across the developed markets of the world. The business has embarked on a period of significant growth and has built a reputation for leading the field in the instruments it produces. These instruments are a complex mix of electronics, mechanics, pneumatics & hydraulics and are essentially advanced robotic systems.

This is an opportunity to join the Development Engineering team, designing industry-leading technology for biomedical applications. As a Senior Software Engineer, your contribution is critical to the development of software on both existing and new instruments. The position will be responsible for mentoring and managing a Software Engineer and be involved in all stages of the product development lifecycle.

The role:

  • Designing, implementing, testing, and documenting software solutions.
  • Managing software projects
  • Supervising another software engineer’s work
  • Participate in all stages of the development cycle, from concept to product release
  • Implement improvements and provide technical support for established products

Individuals with the following skills would be well suited to the position:

  • Object Oriented Programming / ideally C++
  • Extensive knowledge of software development, ideally with machine control
  • Experience designing and developing multi-threaded software
  • Ability to work on complex tasks with minimal technical guidance.
  • Excellent problem-solving, design, development, and debugging skills.

An understanding of the following would be advantageous (but not essential):

  • Experience with automation systems
  • Robotics
  • Computer vision
  • Experience in USB and other high speed communication interfaces
  • Basic understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems


  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent
